Welcome by Director of Studies MSc EPA, Haiko van der Voort |
|
I thoroughly like the diversity of EPA-students. They– eh, you– come from everywhere. We have a world map here on our floor. Every student is invited to put a sticker on the place of birth. You see that EPA students are form all over the globe.
Ok, there is some concentration in Western Europe. But there is also a huge variety of other countries. You feel it every day here. Somehow this diversity is a connector. There is eagerness to learn about each other’s culture. For instance, about our food. We have an annual potluck dinner where everybody brings in a taste from their own country. But there is more than food. EPA involves a lot of group work, so there is a natural mechanism to exchange wisdoms and– let's be fair– stupidities of cultures. |

What's happening on the Fifth Floor? |
Just a brief note on what is going on here in The Hague. Courses, of course. Now with good weather as a context. April is quite intense here. Not just because of the courses, but because of all kind of extracurricular activities that are organized here.
Over the last few months we have organised Alumni drinks to reconnect with our alumni, and go-karting for our current students to dispel the exam stress. The External Affairs committee organised a Career Day to bring together students and various organizations, from companies to public institutions. This year, we were joined by ECORYS, Deloitte , Buck Consultants International, ABN AMRO , and APPM .The Career Day is a great chance for EPA students to expand their network find potential thesis and/or internship opportunities; the same holds for the invited organizations, who can get to know EPA prospective graduates as potential future hires. We also organised Spring Drinks on the second week of quarter 4, to hangout and enjoy together, while celebrating good weather!
Again, this is just a sample. It looks like the sun energizes us to wake up after the long winter! |

Academic Counsellors at TPM |
We – Marieke Kuyvenhoven Lemckert and Sarina Tahitu – are looking forward to meeting you all at the start of the Academic year. We will be your Academic Counsellors for the whole duration of your time with us in Delft.
But what does an Academic Counsellor do?
You can reach out to us by - mail – appointment - during consultation hours - to discuss things impacting your study.
But what kind of things?
Think of studying with a disability, need of making a new study planning, study skills, when you have unfortunately to deal with personal circumstances reducing your ability to study. It can also be about the choices to be made within your programme as electives or thesis. We are here for you offering a listening ear in a safe and confidential environment. We can also help you get access or redirect you to some of the many facilities at the Delft like the student psychologists. Do you know of writing coaches or the opportunity to work on your personal development by taking a workshop on essential study skills? We are very much looking forward to meeting you at the faculty!
