Welcome by Director of Studies MSc EPA, Haiko van der Voort |
|
As TU Delft scholar and EPA Director of Studies I have two offices, one in Delft and one at the 5th floor of the Wijnhaven building in The Hague. I try to spend my working days equally over Delft and the 5th. Nothing wrong with Delft, but somehow I am in The Hague more often. Why?
Well, that’s easy. I just take one step out of my door, and I am among wonderful people. EPA students combine ideals and analytics in an inspiring way. I like the way they let both their heart and mind speak. Breaking down huge challenges to a human scale is no small feat. It is easy to get lost in the complexities that are inherent to societal challenges on a global scale. They need idealism to take these challenges on. They need an analytical mindset to keep their feet on the ground.
I then see them deliberating in groups of three about what element should be put where in that huge simulation they are making. Impressive stuff for someone just passes by. In between these working session they shop at the local store, attend a lunch lecture, a fun workshop, a lecture or webinar. Sometimes it is hard to tell what is what.
When taking that step out of my door I am witnessing EPA-life. And that is worth the visit to The Hague.

Özge Okur: EPA programme manager |
|
In 2023 I started as EPA programme manager, which enables me to be more involved with the EPA structure and activities. It has been very exciting so far; students and staff members have been friendly and welcoming, which I believe is a typical experience for new starters in EPA.
You will also see me as one of the lecturers in the data science course. I have been really enjoying teaching this course for the past few years. I find EPA students very eager to learn, enthusiastic about approaching complex problems analytically, and also nice to interact with.
I hope to facilitate a wonderful learning experience for EPA students, working as a team with the Director of Studies, Haiko van der Voort, and the office manager, Lilian Hellemons.

Behind the scenes |
|
As office manager of EPA, I will try to make everybody feel at home on the 5th floor and to build a strong EPA community. Being quite new here, my experience so far is that EPA students are very social, hardworking students with a friendly attitude, always willing to help. On my part, I will do my utmost to not only assist with practical things like getting your entrance card working, office supplies, technical issues or making an appointment with our great director or other staff members, but to also make feel you feel welcome and have some great fun together!

Dentatus |
Dentatus is the study association for Engineering and Policy Analysis (EPA) students at TU Delft, under Curius, which is the study association of the faculty Technology, Policy and Management. Dentatus aims to foster a supportive, enriching environment for its members. Key activities include connecting students with research at TU Delft, organizing study-related events, and maintaining strong ties with Curius. Dentatus also organises many community building activities, such as the Culture Cookout pictured above. Additionally, the association works towards building relationships with companies, government bodies, and NGOs in The Hague, relevant to the EPA program, providing students with valuable networking and educational opportunities. |

Student stories from Adli, Ayoub, Lorenzo and others! |
|
Adli Luthfi "Hi, my name is Adli, and I’m from Indonesia. I hold a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from Institut Teknologi Bandung. As I knew I could never let go of my structured approach as an engineer, I also want to think bigger and create a change at a broader level. I want a program that can bridge the gap between my technical mindset and policy-making, and that’s what drew me to EPA. EPA offers a multidisciplinary approach between social sciences and engineering and try to solve challenges using evidence-based policy." > read story
Ayoub Ghamas: "Hi, I’m Ayoub Ghamas from Morocco! My journey has always been about bridging technology and policy, from working in energy efficiency consulting to navigating high-level ministerial engagements in digital transformation. I come from a world where technology moves fast, but policymaking lags behind. I wanted to change that. EPA isn’t just about analyzing problems, it’s about learning to challenge assumptions, break silos, and design solutions that matter. Here, I’ve found the perfect mix of data-driven thinking and strategic decision-making, where complex problems don’t scare us, they motivate us.." > read story
Lorenzo Bettin: "I’m Lorenzo Bettin, from Italy. For my bachelor I did Business Engineering at Maastricht University and I’m now a first year student at EPA....What I really enjoy about EPA is its ability to provide you a real mindset about strategic thinking and planning, thanks to its technical and modeling course catalog mixed with the policy frameworks." > read story |
