Academic Counsellors at TPM
We – Marieke Kuyvenhoven Lemckert and Sarina Tahitu – are excited to meet all of you at the beginning of the new academic year. We will be your Academic Counsellors throughout your time at TU Delft.

So, what does an Academic Counsellor do?
You can reach out to us via email, by making an appointment, or during our consultation hours to discuss any issues that may affect your studies.

What types of issues can you discuss with us?
Are you navigating the challenges of studying with a disability? Do you need help creating a new study plan or enhancing your study skills? Perhaps you are managing other personal circumstances that affect your academic journey. No matter what it is, we’re here to help you find your path!

We can help you explore the exciting academic opportunities in your program, such as selecting electives, arranging an exchange, and planning your thesis. We can also introduce you to skill coaches and workshops to support your personal development. Moreover, we can help connect you with various resources in Delft, such as medical professionals and student psychologists. Our aim is to listen and provide support in a safe, non-judgmental environment.

We look forward to meeting you at the faculty and embarking on this journey together!

Housing in the Netherlands

As you prepare for your exciting journey at TU Delft, securing accommodation should be one of your top priorities after receiving your admission letter. The Netherlands is currently experiencing a housing shortage, making it a challenge for students to find affordable housing close to their universities. Delft is no exception, but there is no need to panic! Here are several strategies to help you in your search for suitable accommodation:

Option 1: TU Delft’s housing service
TU Delft has partnered with various housing agencies in the greater-Delft region to offer accommodation to students coming from abroad. To access the housing portal, you need to complete two important steps: First, indicate your interest in using the service when you submit your Confirmation Statement. Second, ensure you make full payment as outlined in your Financial Letter. The housing portal allocates a limited number of rooms for both Master’s and Bachelor’s students on a first-come, first-served basis, so quick action is essential. The housing fee will be refunded to you if TU Delft is unable to secure accommodation for you. To get started, make sure to sign up in time! Click here for more information.

Option 2: Arrange accommodation yourself
You can also search for housing independently through rental agencies or private landlords. This process can be very time-consuming, so it is important to start early. For a list of useful websites and tips, please visit the TU Delft housing webpage here. Always
be aware of rental frauds as well as make sure you can officially register your new address with the municipality.

Option 3: Short-term housing solutions
Although not ideal, short-term accommodation for a few months can be a practical starting point. Many students sublet their rooms during internships or exchanges in their second year, creating a number of temporary rental opportunities throughout the year. If you can secure a short stay, use this time to continue your search for long-term accommodation. While it involves a bit of risk and requires trust in the subletter, this can be a viable way to transition into your new living situation comfortably.

Make sure to arrange your accommodation before arriving in the Netherlands, as it is your legal obligation to register a valid Dutch address at the local municipality within 5 days after arrival in the Netherlands. Furthermore, a valid and registered address allows you to obtain a BSN (Citizen Service Number), which is needed to interact with Dutch authorities and opening a Dutch bank account.

Best of luck in your search, and we look forward to welcoming you on campus next September!

Transportation in Delft
Getting around Delft and its nearby region is super easy! A popular mode of transportation among students is cycling, whether through personal or rental bicycles. Public transport options such as buses, trains, and trams are also readily available. For further information about transport cards and bike rentals, please check the link below.

Insurance and Healthcare
All students at TU Delft are required to have adequate medical and personal liability insurance. It is your obligation to ensure that you have proper insurance in place before leaving for the Netherlands.
The general practitioner (GP) is your local doctor. In the Netherlands, you must register with a GP after you receive your BSN. Please check the link below for further information.

Discover King's Day
On April 27, we celebrated Koningsdag (King's Day), a vibrant occasion honoring King Willem Alexander's birthday. On King's Day, the entire country turns into a sea of orange on that day—the national color—as people dress up, paint their faces, and decorate everything from bicycles to boats.
